I worked on this painting for 11 months in my free time. Every hour spent on it was a great pleasure, but I am very happy to finally see it finished. I made this piece as a small “thanks” to Michelle Sagara for creating wonderful, unique worlds, and the captivating characters in her novels, particularly my most favorite series, the Chronicles of Elantra.
I love all the characters (positive or negative) from the Elantra series, but the above 13 are my most favorite.
From left to right, top to bottom, the characters are as follows:
Kayling, Hope (the little dragon), the Eternal Dragon Emperor, Emmerian, Diarmat, Sanabalis, the Arkon, Ballusdeo, Makkuron (the black dragon), Tiamaris, Evarrim, Teela, the Consort and lastly, Nighshade.
Many thanks to the wonderful Michelle Sagara, who kindly sent me a detailed description of the Eternal Dragon Emperor and Emmerian, both characters, which did not yet appear in the novels, but were only spoken of. Strange how I can love them so, even though neither the Emperor nor Emmerian ever spoke so much as a word in the novels. Still, they just have a “presence” that I am totally fascinated by, particularly the Eternal Dragon Emperor.
Long live the Elantra Series and Michelle Sagara for writing such an amazing story and characters. I can't wait for Cast in Flame. XD

Thanks! Glad to hear I was able to capture the characters to your liking.
I agree! It's my most favorite series too.
I can understand your interest in the Eternal Dragon Emperor, he seems to be like a very interesting character, when spoken of.
Thank you so much for your absolutely awesome art!
As for the city/fiefs: My view of Elantra, as well as the fiefs is continuously changing. I started this painting a year ago and it took an entire year to finish (mostly because I was only working on it in between commissions in my free time). By the time I finished it, there are some things I'd like to change because my view of them changed. For example, the Arkon's hair, Sanabalis' beard and clothes, the Dariandaros' clothes, and the city behind Dariandaros. My view of Elantra shifted, and I imagine the streets differently now. But if I were to always go back and change the paintings whenever my view of something changes, I'd never finish a painting. XD How did you imagine Elantra and the fiefs, if you have any visual references you could show me? I am also very open to suggestions and new inspiration.
Thank you so much for your wonderful compliment on my Elantra paintings. I am so happy I can bring some joy with them to others.
And, I'm so excited!! It took me a bit to get the book, but I literally just got the newest book in the mail. Sitting right next to me in the box, actually. >_> I'm so excited to read it~!!!!
And, I know I said this already , but I love your work and always look forward to your newest creations. ^_^
But anyway. I hope you enjoy Cast in Flame. I am not sure how you feel about spoilers, so I will not say anything specific here, but there's an awesome encounter at the end of the book between Kaylin and someone. XD
My mom read the book before I got my copy. And she normally doesn't tell me anything that happens, but she told me who Kaylin meets...... I started squealing and flailing my arms. Stopped breathing for a little bit while that was going on... >_> lol BUT, I've started it now!! And so far, loving it~!! So many parts make me giggle. :3
Oh yes, back then i did read it, and I loved it. I was so excited (with butterflies in my stomach)! Have you read the book? I think I read 3 times. I loved the scenes with Emmerian and Dariandaros. I literally had a tear of joy rolling down my face when I realized that it was Dariandaros standing beside the Arkon. XDDD
AT LAST! We MET him! *dies happy*
Thank you so much for this amazing piece of art Mathia!
Thank you ever so much for your compliment! I am very glad to hear my painting is to your liking.
