elantra: High Lord 3D - Finished by MathiaArkoniel elantra: High Lord 3D - Finished by MathiaArkoniel
3D character model of the High Lord from the Chronicles of Elantra by Michelle Sagara.

Sadly, Uni prevented me from finishing this piece sooner, but it is now, finally, fully skinned/rigged and posed. (v^_^)

I made him left-handed, but this is not canon. Or at least, whether the High Lord is a Lefty or Righty was never mentioned in the books. Since I always imagined him left-handed for some reason, I also painted him thus in this piece: fav.me/d9m1530

Irony is, that now I learned new techniques at uni that would have enabled me to make this character model much nicer would I have known them back during the summer break when i was working on this piece. Sadly, there’s no way I’ll redo it all. No time, no time. ヽ( ̄д ̄; )ノ

Ah well. The new skills will come in handy for Lord Diarmat! Who is, of course, next on my list.(`∀´)Ψ

Software used: 3ds Max, ZBrush, Quixel Suite, Photoshop, and Marmoset Toolbag.

I see, I see. The not so flowery, no so fluffy elf. With hard career aspirations and not shy to manipulate and planning intrigues. But I am envious for the hair. ;) And I like that reddish shine you gave his armour. Makes it a little less shiny, but ... I think it's more bearable for the eyes. It doesn't sting out as too golden, too bright. It's a matte tone, but still noble. And makes a nice fit with the dark blue shine of the hair.

THIS IS AMAZING!!! Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much detail! I know someone who made sculptures of his characters in a CAD program, had them 3D printed, and then painted them...it took him FOREVER, but the results were stunning.
(you adjusted the eyes from before. He doesn't look as "I-just-got-electrocuted")

Wow!!! Definitely in awe with all the perspectives and details, but his hair is a total other level of awesomeness! So flowy, and in 3D. Just wow...

I already envied Barrani hair while reading the books, and now your art gives me more reasons to do so...

Thank you so much! I am glad you like it. :D

As for the programs used; darn. I forgot to post it. I used 3ds Max for the modelling, Zbrush for the sculpting, Quixel Suite and Photoshop for texturing and Marmoset Toolbag for the final beauty shots.

I felt the same way as you did 3 years ago. 3D art seemed like a huge mountain to overcome, but it's deceptive. It's not easy, but it's easier than it looks, so don't give up. Now I love 3D more than 2D. Good luck!
